My Bio

Scott Landreth

This is the bit where I talk about myself!

In a nutshell, I am a residential real estate agent with Heritage Texas Properties (http://www.heritagetexas.com)  in Houston, Texas, in my humble opinion the premiere real estate broker in the city. I started real estate in 2002 and have had the good fortune of racking up a lot of sales in that time doing somewhere between twenty and thirty transactions per year. I don’t really keep tabs except that real estate is all I do being the point. I just wish I had found it earlier in life.

I especially thrive on the variety of people and transactions characteristic of the business. If the truth be known, there is a human story behind every deal. Whether buying or selling, real people with real needs are embarking on journeys that have real personal and financial impacts on their lives. At the end of the day, it’s about helping people solve a housing problem. It sounds trite, but the obvious usually is. Putting it to work is not always easy however. In this vein, I try hard to help my clients sort through their individual situations to come up with favorable outcomes. I am with them every step of the way providing guidance on market conditions, pricing, marketing strategy, contract negotiations and financing. While I am not a mortgage broker, any real estate agent worth his or her salt needs to understand today’s crazy world of financing a home — from both points of view, buying AND selling. Indeed, times have changed from three years ago when all you needed was a slight pulse to get a home loan!

If you’ve read this far, you may as well read a little further. I work for referrals, not commission checks. It’s how dedicated agents stay in business. I’ve been complimented more than once on my ability to make things proceed smoothly – even in the face of adversity. I’m fortunate to receive more than my fair share of referrals. At the risk of blowing my own horn too much, I’ve received a lot of kind words from previous clients. One wrote, “We started as clients and ended up as friends. Scott understood our needs and managed to take us through each step of the process – despite being six time zones and 5000 miles away!” Another stated, “People like Scott do make a difference and not just in his line of business. We found him to be extremely open and direct…He listened to our needs.” And a final testament, “Scott is a superstar, and if we ever move again, Scott is our man.” Enough already!

I came to real estate via a circuitous route. I grew up living in various countries in Asia, Africa and Europe because my father worked for the US government. I speak French because I went to French schools for eight years. (It’s a little rusty now, but I really have no problem with it.) I graduated from college with a degree in Finance from NYU and went to work for McDonnell Douglas putting together contracts for various F-15 and F-18 programs. It was like working for the government. So I moved over to internal audit at Monsanto. That was definitely not me, though I did get to travel around the world for a couple of years on someone else’s dime. I then became mesmerized by the possibilities of personal computing. After a stint in project finance at a commercial real estate development company, I went headlong into the information technology world. I wrote PC software, developed and managed PC networks and eventually became IT director for a small multinational consulting firm. During that time, my then wife and I owned a real estate title search company for 12 years. She did ninety percent of the day-to-day work, but I was involved enough to get a solid grounding in real estate title work. I can safely say that residential real estate is the only profession I know which makes full use of the tools I’ve garnered over the years.

I truly hope this blog helps you understand the Houston real estate market. Be sure to read the “Behind the Numbers”  and “Coverage Area” pages so that you know what exactly I am compiling and how.  Thanks for reading this far. You should get a prize!
